CFBS Political Advocacy of Science
Award was presented to the Honorable Senator Yves Morin
at the CFBS 45th Annual Meeting, June 2002, Palais des
Congres de Montreal by Dr. Peter Anderson, CFBS President.
A physician and a scientist, the Honorable Yves Morin
is an internationally renowned researcher in cardiology.
He studied Medicine at Laval and completed his training
in Toronto, London and Paris. During his academic career,
he was Director of the Québec Institute of Cardiology
and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Laval. He has
been President of the Québec Medical Research
Council and President of the Québec Universities
Research Commission. At the national level, he has been
Vice-President of the Medical Research Council of Canada
and Vice-President of the Royal College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Canada. At the time of his appointment
to the Senate, he was Vice-President of the Science
Advisory Board of Health Canada, Member of the Council
of Science and Technology Advisors (Canada) and Member
of Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research. He has published more than 300 monographs,
book chapters and scientific papers. His interests are
the development of a strong national health care system
and of an effective science policy for Canada.
