Ms. Patricia Guyda
Canadians for Health Research
Winner of the Gordin Kaplan Award Lecture
The Canadian Federation of Biological Societies (CFBS) is
very pleased to announce that Ms Patricia Guyda of Montreal
will be the 2002 recipient of the Gordin Kaplan Award. The
Award is in recognition of her contributions in advocacy for
biomedical sciences in Canada.
She is a founding member and long time president of Canadians
for Health Research. This group has done much to make the
public aware of the need for support for basic medical research.
Besides encouraging support to research by government and
non-government agencies. Ms. Guyda has worked tirelessly over
the past twenty or so years to increase public awareness of
science and the use of animals in health research. Her personal
contributions have included presentations to high school students
and the promotion of health research journalism.
In 1993, she became a Member of the Order of Canada, and
in 1999, she received the Biomedical Science Ambassador Award
from Partners in Research.
Ms. Guyda will be giving the Gordin Kaplan Award lecture
at the CFBS 45th Annual Meeting in Montreal, June 13, 2002.
Dr. Peter Anderson, CFBS President, will present Ms. Guyda
with the Gordin Kaplan Award plaque and honorarium prior to
the lecture.
