2002 Winner

The Excellence Award was presented by Dr. Peter Anderson, CFBS President, to Dr. David Brown, for his outstanding contributions to CFBS over a number of years.

Dr. David Brown has been an active member of the CFBS and the Canadian Cell Biology community since 1970. He first served on the Board of CFBS from 1971-78, as Secretary of the Canadian Society for Cell Biology (CSCB) from 1971-75 and as President-elect, President, and Past President of CSCB from 1975-78. During this period he was a member of the CFBS Program Committee (1971-75) and the Science Policy Committee (1978-80).

He represented the CFBS and CSCB on the organizing committees for the 2nd (Berlin) and 3rd (Tokyo) International Congresses and was President of the Organizing Committee for the 4th International Congress on Cell Biology held in Montréal in 1988. From 1993 to 1997 Dave rejoined the Executive of CFBS as Chair of the Scientific Program Committee and served on the Board as the representative (1994) and President (1996-97) of the Canadian Council of University Biology Chairs. During his research career, largely devoted to studies of the cytoskeleton and the nuclear matrix, Dave has published 112 refereed papers and reviews and has trained 30 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
