2005 Winner

The Excellence Award will be presented by Dr. Alexander Clanachan, CFBS President, to Dr. Ken Fisher, CFBS Hon. Secretary in recognition of his tireless effort, thoughtful innovation and commitment to the Canadian Federation of Biological Societies. Ken has been serving as the Hon. Secretary on the CFBS Executive since 1998. He has been the driving force behind revising the CFBS By Laws up to modern standards of business law & communication. He is serving in various capacities on the Local Organizing Committee for the 2nd Northern Lights Summer Conference, CFBS 48th Annual Meeting, June 2005, University of Guelph, Guelph, ON.

In 1986 and for ten years thereafter, Ken served as the Bulletin Editor for the Canadian Society Cellular and Molecular Biology. In 1997 and for one year, he was a Co-Editor of the Bulletin for Canadian Society of Biochemistry Molecular and Cellular Biology (CSBMCB). At the University of Guelph Dr. Fisher is an award winning professor. In addition to large classes in Medical Embryology and Teratology, Ken has been heavily involved with the curricular development of the Veterinary Medical Program and the development and maturation of the highly successful Biomedical Sciences Program. For 22 years, Dr Fisher was at the core of Convocations for the University where he served as Convocation Committee Chairman, Parade Marshall and Head Usher. Away from the University, Ken is active at an award winning level of leadership in the world's largest, male, acapella singing organization, The Barbershop Harmony Society. Ken is happily married with two daughters of whom he is inordinately proud.

Ken, we congratulate you, wish you well, and we sincerely hope to have you continue to serve on the CFBS Executive for some time.
