P.A.G.S.E Symposium

The Partnership Group for Science & Engineering (PAGSE) requested that the CFBS Executive Director organize this year's PAGSE's symposium. The Symposium entitled "Research: The Key to Canada's Well-Being" was held on October 17th in the West Block on Parliament Hill. The Honourable Gilbert Normand, Secretary of State for Science, Research and Development, opened the sessions. The sessions were attended by 70 individuals including MPs and senior government officials.

The theme of the program for 2001 focused on Cancer Research with the following outstanding researchers presenting their work: Drs. Philip Branton (McGill), David Andrews (McMaster), Jacques Simard (Laval), Ian Smith (NRC,Winnipeg), Brenda Gallie (Ontario Cancer Institute) and Dr. Robert Young (Merck-Frosst, Canada). These sessions, which are an annual event, are designed to provide parliamentarians and government officials with insights into the research process and updating of accomplishments in specific areas of investigation.
